Middle School Students Complete MAP Growth Testing

Our Middle School students recently completed their MAP Growth assessments. Here's what MAP measures, why we use it, and how families can make sense of the results.

Our Middle School students recently completed their MAP Growth assessments in Reading, Language Usage and Mathematics. We're proud of the focus and effort they brought to each session, and grateful to the teachers and staff who made the testing days run smoothly.

What is MAP Growth?

MAP Growth, developed by NWEA, is a computer-adaptive assessment. As a student answers, the test adjusts: a correct answer leads to a slightly harder question, and an incorrect one to a slightly easier question. This means every student gets a test pitched at their own level, whether they are working below, at or well beyond grade level.

Why we use it

  • It measures growth, not just achievement. Students take MAP more than once a year, so we can see how much each learner has progressed over time.

  • It guides teaching. Teachers use the results to group students, plan lessons and identify who needs extra support or more challenge.

  • It gives a broader view. Results can be compared with large international norms, helping us check our programme against a wider benchmark.

Understanding the results

Each student receives a RIT score for every subject. RIT is a stable scale that tracks progress across grades, so it is most meaningful when you compare a student's scores over time rather than against classmates. A single test is a snapshot of one day; the trend across several testing windows tells the real story.

MAP is not a pass-or-fail exam and does not affect report card grades. It is one tool among many that helps us understand each learner.

What's next

Family reports will be shared once results have been reviewed. If you have questions about your child's scores, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or the Middle School office. Thank you for supporting our students through another successful testing window!
